GAINESVILLE — Shortly before their season-opening game against Florida, Miami lost a key commitment.
Four-star linebacker Elijah Melendez backed off his UM pledge on Saturday, posting about his decision on social media.
Melendez was one of the Hurricanes’ longest-tenured commits in the 2025 class. He committed to Miami in December 2023.
Melendez, who plays for Kissimmee Osceola High is rated a four-star prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings. He is listed as the No. 17 linebacker and the No. 147 player in the 2025 class. He has offers from Auburn, Oklahoma and Ole Miss, among others.
Miami has two linebackers still committed in the class: four-star prospect Gavin Nix and three-star prospect Ezekiel Marcelin.
