Kendrick Blackshire's time as a member of the Texas football program lasted one semester. The Duncanville product who transferred to the Longhorns from Alabama entered the NCAA transfer portal on Tuesday according to Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.
Tuesday is the final day for non-graduate transfers to declare their entry into the transfer portal in the spring window. Blackshire is the second Texas linebacker to enter the portal during the spring semester along with 2023 signee S'Maje Burrell.
In addition to Blackshire and Burrell, Texas has also lost running back Savion Red, offensive lineman Payton Kirkland, EDGE J'Mond Tapp, EDGE Billy Walton, defensive lineman Zac Swanson, cornerback Terrance Brooks and cornerback/STAR Austin Jordan to the transfer portal since it opened on April 16.
Blackshire committed to the Longhorns on Jan. 16 after departing the Crimson Tide. Blackshire went through winter conditioning and spring practice with Texas, but he'll be elsewhere when head coach Steve Sarkisian opens his fourth season on the Forty Acres on Aug. 31 at Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium against Colorado State.
Blackshire originally chose the Tide over LSUand Texas A&M.
In his time at Alabama, Blackshire totaled 25 tackles two tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Against Texas in the Longhorns' 34-24 road win over the Tide at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Sept. 10, Blackshire recorded three tackles.
